"Power Cord Heats Up! Read the side warning on the compressor" 2009-08-23
By David Kang (S. Florida)
The Good Stuff - Comes in a nice bag with separate compartment for the coiled air hose and accessories to blow up balls, rafts etc.

Its very quiet compared to the other 12volt types out there in the world.

The Bad Stuff - The unit draws alot of current and there is a clear warning right on the side of the compressor saying DO NOT use for more than 10 minutes.

I used it for 5 minutes and it melted the inside of my 12volt accessory outlet. The fuse is rated at 15amps and so is my 12volt accessory plug.

Well it died completely the fuses never blew so I returned it.

I suggest using a clip on 12volt adapter, direclty to the car battery if using this air pump so it can get the amps it needs without a complete melt down!!!

You'll have to buy that separately and if your at Walmart its in the marina section why its not in the car section is beyond me!

No! I don't recommend it for heavy duty use as it was designed to do but the warning sign on the side of the unit should have been my first clue.

Sorry guys, but its 2 thumbs down for me. I still gave it 2 stars because it looks pretty! but I'm a mans man and it just didn't workout for me.

Maybe it was a defective unit? I don't know since everybody here seems to have luck with it.

Oh by the way it was just a regular car tire I was pumping up that was low when it died, couldn't Imagine what would of happened if it was a truck tire? Humm.....

 "As Advertised" 2009-08-17
By William M. Grupe
Does really well on truck and car tires, imagine bike tires will be even faster. Other inflators you can hear slowing down as the pressure goes up, this one showed no sign of slowing down. Much quieter than others I've had, and really appreciate being able to extend a pretty good distance from the 12volt source. It's nothing special for inflatables, just too much air required.

"Excellent heavy duty air compressor" 2009-07-25
By Chad H. Remp
I've done research on other compressors and purchase this one. My company runs heavy duty trucks with tires that need 100psi pressures. We deflated a tire down to 80 psi and were able to re-inflate the tire back to 100 psi in around 15 minutes. The hose got hot, but the compressor was able to re-inflate the tire. We were impressed, and use this to top-off tires during mobile inspections.

"Finally a quality tire air compressor." 2009-07-13
By Jose J. Gonzalez (Torrance, CA)
Great quality product, the fastest tire compressor I've seen while also being very quiet, plus it has a built in light. Makes adjusting tire pressures a breeze and it's not so big either. Also comes with a handy carry bag. This is NOT one of those cheapy tire compressors that sound like they're going to break while taking forever just to fill 3psi. I highly recommend this product.

"Great Tire, Excellent Customer Service" 2009-06-11
By D. Wittenburg (Oakton, Va United States)
This is a great air compressor that I have used multiple times on my minivan and sedan, as well as for blowing up smaller items such as yoga balls and kid pools. The product comes in a very useful storage case that can be easily put under a car's back seat. It also has a screw on cap for the tire that stays in place w/o you having to sit and constantly hold it. The tire guage works quite well, as it is very easy to see the PSI.

I'm also happy to say that customer service is excellent -After accidently stepping on the ligher attachment and breaking it, I contacted Slime and they immediately sent me out a replacement. They got back to me within a day on e-mail and I had the part, which I think came across the country, within a week. The product works great.

The one thing you should do is watch how hot the unit gets- it inflates my minivan tire fine, but sometimes when I need a lot of air, it gets a bit hot. To avoid overheating, I sometimes turn on and off the unit, though I only need to do this unless the tire is extremely low.

I have no reservations about this product and will probably buy another one for other family members.

 "My Review" 2009-02-13
By Bakerboyerbank (Walla Walla WA usa)
I got my tire inflation/gauge a while back now and am just now writing a review. The first time I used it it was off about 15 psi so I was kinda mad that I spent the money on it. Then I realized that the black part of the gauge comes apart and there is a screw and spring on one end that you can adjust to get the rite reading. it works great for me I just use it for inflating tires around the house. I am a diesel mechanic and would not recomend buying this if you plan on using it for everyday use, for that I would buy the expensive ones. the more expensive ones are probably a better buy for the product, if you are not worried about spending a little more money. I am kinda a tight wad.

"Gauge is a piece of trash" 2008-07-24
By Brent Hobbs (Severn, NC)
It inflates a tire just fine, but the gauge seems to have a margin of error around 10 PSI, which is entirely unacceptable for this kind of device. The tire is inflated to 32 PSI and I can get readings anywhere from 30 to 40 psi with the attached gauge.

 "Well Made. Flawed Design." 2009-07-12
By smgsmc
Here's my round-up of tire pressure gauges. Prices vary a lot on Amazon. Usually much cheaper if purchased directly from Amazon (free shipping) than from an affiliated seller. So be careful which seller you pick. If Amazon is out of stock, you may want to wait a week or two. Prices below are what I paid, including free shipping.

In Jan 2009, I bought two gauges: (a) Moroso 89560 ($40.04), an analog dial gauge, and (b) Accutire MS-5510B ($38.41), a digital dial gauge. I have separate reviews for these two units. Both are good units with a flexible hose attachment and a bleed valve. They are fine in the garage, and fit any tire, but are bulky to keep in a glove compartment if you want to check pressures when you're on the road (for example, if you suspect a leak). I just bought three compact units. All three are analog dial gauges: I don't want battery-powered units stashed away in a glove compartment (extreme high and low temps, and who wants a unit with a dead battery in an emergency?).

Same review posted for the following:

Milton (MIL) MILS902 $21.63

Professional Products (PP) 11101 $9.88

Auto Meter (AM) Auto gage 2343 $16.50

All five gauges have a range of 0 - 60 psi. My tires run from 28 - 35 psi. Main features to consider:

(1) Accuracy. Accuracy is specified with respect to a calibration source. Since I don't have a calibration source, I can't comment on accuracy.

(2) Resolution. (a) Accutire. Digital readout. 0.1 psi resolution. (b) Moroso. 2-1/2 in diam dial. Can estimate to nearest ½ psi. (c) MIL, PP, AM. 2 in diam dial. Can estimate to nearest 1 psi.

(3) Reproducibility. Repeated 6 readings for each gauge. Expected some air loss for each reading. No noticeable change for analog gauges. 0.5 psi drop total after six readings for Accutire (it's not leakier, it's only because of the higher resolution).

(4) Agreement. Ran 5 sequences of the 5 gauges in different order. All gauges agreed within +/-1 psi. This is good news. MIL consistently 1 psi lower than the others, but this is fine.

(5) Mechanical.

(a) PP and AM appear to be the same gauge, with two minor differences. Don't know if the innards are the same though...can't open the cases. Both weigh 150 gm, so probably the same inside as well. Heavy sheet metal body. Heavy metal neck, chuck, and valve. Heavy plastic dial cover (hard, not tough, plastic though). Tick marks and numbers on AM dial much sharper than on PP. PP comes with fitted plastic case; AM doesn't. Case is low quality though...hard, not tough, plastic; snap fit. Good for stashing in a glove compartment or tool box. But probably will crack and open up if dropped.

(b) MIL. Heavy metal neck, chuck, and valve. **Extremely el-cheapo and flimsy plastic body and dial cover.**

Common features (MIL, PP, AM):

(1) Have a neck with an angled chuck. Non-swivel. PM, AM neck 2 in length. Milton neck about ¾ in longer.

(2) Have bleed valve. Smooth operation. After gauge is removed, pressure reading is supposed to hold until bleed valve is released. (PP, AM): Reading holds even after 30 sec. (MIL): Reading starts to drop once the gauge is removed (not acceptable).

Common negs:

(1) None come with a boot. Should be standard. A boot is available, but Amazon doesn't sell it directly. An affiliated seller wants $2.99 + $6.95 shipping. That's more than I paid for the PP gauge itself. I have a couple of 25+ yr old Brookstone gauges that have finally deserved a decent burial. Their rubber boots are still in good shape after all these years, and they fit my new gauges just fine.

(2) Gauges without a hose are tricky to use. Many wheels now have spokes, and the valve stems are recessed. Worse, my wife's car has short rigid tire sensors: the stems don't flex at all. If you get a gauge with a straight chuck, the neck is often too short and you can't seat the chuck (the gauge body gets in the way). So these units have an angled chuck. The design is idotic though, because the bleed valve is on the same side as the chuck. Depending on the tire, the bleed valve presses against the wheel when you try to seat the chuck. Not good. There is no swivel head. So if you position the gauge to clear the wheel, you may end up with the gauge oriented such that you can't read it. In which case, it's critical that the bleed valve doesn't leak...that way you can get a valid reading after you remove the gauge. You, of course, lose the capability to overfill the tire a bit and then bleed the pressure to the right value as you look at the dial. So these operate more like stick gauges. In this respect, none of this group of three is totally satisfactory.

Summary: Of the three, though, I'd go with the PP. It has the lowest price and has a storage case. It's essentially the same as the AM. It's not worth the extra $ to get the sharper graphics on the AM. The MIL is the most expensive, is the flimsiest, and my unit came with a leaky valve. I returned it. Five stars to Amazon for free return shipping and processing a refund within several days.

Note added 8/22/09: Prices fluctuate a lot. Go with either PP or AM. If one is significantly cheaper when you order, go with that one.

It works pretty well. It is reasonable acurate. I have found it to be acurate but sometimes gives a different reading if I don't fit it on perfectly to the tire. So thus I give it a 4 star. But if you take the time to take 3 readings you will be fine. I do recommend this one and like it.

 "Cute But Worthless" 2009-02-06
By D. Minich (Minneapolis, MN United States)
This item may be tempting at such a low price, but it doesn't work. I tried it on several tires, and no readings registered on any of them. If you only want an overpriced key chain, I have bad news for you. I had the key chain in my pocket for less than a day and it had turned blue! Whatever blue dye remained in my jeans, after several washings, was absorbed by the rubber body. Who ever heard of a blue Michelin Man?

Customer Buzz
 "works OK, looks cute" 2008-07-05
By o-namae desu (From: the other side of forty)
This is one of the inexpensive MSI "Accutire" strain-gauge pencil gauges (perhaps an MS-4820B, cut in half?), wrapped up in a cute little Mr. Bibendum shroud. ("Mr. Bibendum" is the actual name of the Michelin Man.) In this case, "inexpensive" isn't pejorative: this gauge functions just fine, and (at least while new) seats on the valve without leaking -- which is the biggest failing of cheap gauges. (Note the MS Accutire gauges get mixed reviews on this score, so these Michelin versions may vary too.) It's both: (a) cute enough, and (b) small enough, to live in your Mazda Miata's glove box!

The description lacks measurements: it's between 3" and 4" long, and the feet are roughly twice the width of the valve seat (i.e. about as wide as a ball chuck). The description also has optimistic marketing-speak: the display is NOT "large"; it fits in half the width of Mr. B's chest! (No back light on the LCD, if you were wondering.) Look at the second photo comparing the size of Mr. B to a modern alarm-key -- that's accurate. BUT the hand and the wheel are very misleading! The hand must be some tiny female, and the wheel can't be over 13", or maybe foreshortened. Comes in a blister-pack.
