Dual tires have a set of problems all their own. In motion, the inner tires temperature increases due to in-board brakes and poor air circulation. This causes increased air pressure, which expands the inner tires diameter. As a result, the dual tire configuration is now distorted- the diameters are unequal. Crossfire is a pressure equalizing and monitoring valve that is mounted between dual tires. It bolts easily to the lug, hub cap, or drive axle end. Properly mounted, air freely flows from one tire to the other, maintaining equal tire pressure and load distribution.

This Crossfire System is for ONE dual tire set and comes with:

This is the second Accu-Gauge tire pressure gauge I have purchased. The first had very good accuracy and lasted about 3 years. This one, when compared to three other digital gauges, always shows about 3-4 lbs. less pressure.

I received the Tire Minders as a gift from a friend several years ago. My first thought was "these don't seem like a good idea because they keep the tire valve depressed", so I shelved them.
About two years ago, we bought a new car that came with Tire Minders on it. And they have worked well so far, so I decided to put my "gift" to work on my vehicles' tires.
All worked well until we had summer temperatures hitting 103-106 degrees when one failed. The next day, another failed. Both Tire Minders that caused the flat did so because a small hole about the size of a pin-head appeared at the center of the clear plastic cap. The result was the release of perfectly good tire pressure.
I have removed mine from my car and recommend you take a "pass" on these.

The basic design is flawed. With a traditional valve stem assembly, the valve core serves as the primary safety system and the cap as the secondary. This product defeats the primary system by keeping the valve core pushed in, leaving only the valve cap to hold the tire air pressure.
If the cap isn't tightened enough, or if the o-ring fails - or if the plastic cap develops a leak (as it did with mine), it results in rapid air loss. I consider myself very lucky to have had the cap fail while the car was parked. (And it wasn't curbed or abused in any way. It was on the driver's side.)
In addition, we had a nail in our tire several months ago, the air pressure was very low and the valve cap didn't change colors. It makes me question their reliability in functioning at all.

I liked these for a while, with family members who don't remember to check things. But I won't use them anymore, due to two problems.
But: after a while, the threads corrode and fuse to the valve stem. Then you have to remove the tire from the rim and replace the valve stem! My shop guy says he's always having to cut them off.
Also, if you knock the plastic cover off against a curb, the tire will deflate. This only happened once. The "fusing to the stem" is the reason I won't buy them anymore.

In August 2005 during a very hot spell with temperatures in the high 90's to 100 degrees fahrenheit, 2 of my Tire Minders literally went pffft (I could hear the hissing sound) giving me 2 flat tires in the space of an hour! The second flat tire occurred after AAA had left after changing the 1st tire. I had installed them in my family's 3 cars around January 2005.
I called Brookstone customer service to alert them to the safety hazard and I was promised this would be relayed to the proper department and that I would be sent a return envelope for the 3 sets (4 each) of Tire Minders that I had in my 3 cars.
I have received the return envelopes and the store credit but no recognition of my safety concerns for others. I am more concerned about the safety of Tire Minders (heat related failure?).
Too bad, this would've been great product if it had not messed up my tires.

I've used these for a few years on all three of my vehicles. They were great for a while, but they can get difficult to see whether it is green, yellow, or red with brake dust and condensation inside. On one of my cars, I heard a noise when I was moving on the front driver's side, so I replaced the caliper and bearing, but the noise persisted. Thanks to my incredibly smart mechanic, he found that the noise was the tire because the pressure was low --- BUT the Tire Minder was green.
I just bought a plastic set with a different design at Advance Auto Parts, so the testing begins.
[Update 4/19/06] I bought that plastic set and the tire service place had to replace the valve stem because the plastic thing melted to the valve stem. Oh well, back to manually checking pressures. :(
