"Buy a bunch so you'll get some that read consistently" 2009-01-12
By tire time (New England, USA)
I bought several of these gauges since they were so incredibly cheap at $.88/each. The shipping was expensive relative to the cost of just 1 gauge but didn't increase when I ordered more than one. A pencil-type tire pressure gauge should give consistent readings. I have an old Acme pencil-type and it is very consistent. I took 2 consecutive readings with the Acme and it read 37 psi both times. I opened the first new package and the first use of this Michigan Ind. gauge gave a reading of 40 psi on the tire. I then took 10 more consecutive readings on the same tire with the same gauge with 4 seconds between each. The next was 36 psi, then 42 psi, then 32 psi, then 40 psi, then 34 psi...you get the drift. I threw this piece of junk in the garbage.

I then opened another one of these Michigan Ind. gauges and tested it. THIS one gave VERY consistent readings at 36 psi each time on my second tire. While there is a lifetime guarantee on this item, it's not worth the shipping cost to return it. Buy a dozen so you'll get some that work! I bought a few pencil-type gauges (Slime, NAPA) at local auto parts stores, and had to return them for very inconsistent readings, and they cost a lot more money.
